It's a Green Thing

Holiday Mathis on

Kermit the Frog sang, "It's not easy being green," but ease isn't the aim when rivers and revelers alike run emerald. St. Patrick's Day, poised on the dark edge of a new moon and the last sigh of winter, invites us to trade comfort for becoming. Growth is rarely graceful. It's tender, uncertain, a little raw. Still, it's worth it.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Sometimes, being unprepared is an advantage. When you don't know what "should" happen, you're not locked into expectations. You respond to what's actually in front of you instead of trying to force it into a preconceived plan.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Your mood affects your decisions. Today, you'll manage your reactions instead of being managed by them. Emotional intelligence improves everything: health, money, energy, outcomes and more.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You're in service mode today, and it works because you prepared. While others improvise, you've already mapped it out. Planning is your edge. That's why you deliver with a lot of personality. You can afford to since the basics are all covered.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You've already done the phase where you said yes to everything. It expanded you. Now your calendar is fuller than your capacity. The next level isn't more opportunity; it's sharper selection. This is the part where you start saying no.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Some people treat giving orders like a hobby. You don't need managing, not even from a boss. Advocate for yourself. You can get the guidance you need without taking part in strange power dynamics.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Knowing only the best and worst of something can be dramatic. But depth lives in the ordinary moments. With people, intimacy isn't built on peak experiences. It's built on the Tuesday afternoons.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). In the way that a movie trailer gives a taste of the tone of entertainment to come, a first social encounter tells you what's around the bend if you decide to go further into a relationship.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). If you think you're underperforming, you're probably overlooking the full scope of what you handle each day. Step back and take inventory. Give yourself more credit, and the grace you so deserve.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Some won't move forward until you give the word, so you offer it freely. You'd rather not become a bottleneck. Approval isn't power to hoard; it's energy that is best kept moving.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Some feelings -- such as worry, frustration or guilt -- only need to be experienced for a short time to have served their practical purpose. Let them be brief bouts of feedback indicating an adjustment is needed.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You don't have to fight yourself. You can bring your head and heart into alignment through something peaceful like walking in nature, listening to music, having a soulful conversation or doing creative work.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). The truth is the sun that grows flowers from mud. No one can change the truth, but the truth can change everyone. Today, you won't have to discover or learn the truth. You'll only have to accept it and lean into its light.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (March 17). Welcome to your Year of the Fair Trade, when mutuality, justice and reciprocity ring through your dealings. Efforts balance with the reward, refreshingly. Everyone pulls their own weight in relationships, and as a result, you're able to build something remarkable together that would never be possible in an atmosphere of greed. More highlights: A special interest has you traveling, dancing and adventuring. You'll have impressive savings and a good turn in health. Leo and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 18, 20, 3 and 5.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: In the audacious dark comedy "The Musical," Rob Lowe plays a high school principal whose "Blue Ribbon of Academic Excellence" is threatened by a controversial musical production. Lowe recently spoke at a screening of the movie, using his platform to call for better tax credits to incentivize more productions to film in California. The soulful Piscean actor and activist was born when Mars was in this artistic station as well. Mercury and Jupiter were in Aries, which might explain his perennial youth.
